The Churchill Fellows Association of South Australia have an award that offers everyday Australians a life-changing opportunity to travel overseas and investigate a topic or issue they are passionate about. Applications are now open for the 2020 round of Churchill Fellowships. Unlike more traditional academic fellowships, Churchill Fellowships are not given for tertiary study and no formal qualifications are required. Churchill Fellows design their own projects and itinerary so they can access expertise which cannot be found in Australia, at a time that suits them. The Trust covers travel costs and living expenses for four to eight weeks, with Fellowships worth an average of $29,000 each.

In 2020, the Churchill Trust is particularly keen to receive applications from people who live in regional and rural South Australia, and people who are involved in any aspect of agriculture, horticulture, fishing and aquaculture, automotive and lost trades, education, the arts and multicultural communities. Apart from general Fellowships, a specific sponsored fellowship is also available for a South Australian resident who wants to explore an issue relating to the natural environment.

Fellowship applications can be made online until April 30, 2020, for travel between February 1, 2021, and January 31, 2022.
