An $8 million upgrade to a steel processing centre in Whyalla will create a state-of-the-art facility and further enhance the Spencer Gulf as a manufacturing hub in South Australia – securing up to 160 jobs.
The project will be delivered by Ferretti International with the State Government providing $2 million from the Regional Growth Fund and the Federal Government providing $750,000 from its Manufacturing Modernisation Fund.
The processing centre will be able to support Whyalla Steel Works with its transformation and allow steel to be processed in the Spencer Gulf city for the Australian market. Work on the project is expected to begin in the coming months and take up to two years to be fully functioning.
The new facility will allow steel being processed in Whyalla to increase from 2,000 tonnes a year to 1,000 tonnes a month.
Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP) congratulates Ferretti International on being awarded grant funding for this major development. RDAEP is pleased to support and assist Ferretti on the project and acknowledges the jobs and investment it will bring to the region. An exciting development with huge benefits to Whyalla and the Eyre Peninsula.
