Olympic Dam Asset President, Jacqui McGill has announced a major upgrade of BHP’s Olympic Dam smelter and underground mining operations.

At the peak of the upgrade project, BHP expect 1,300 contractor personnel will be onsite to work around the clock to deliver the upgrade.

Spread across 49 projects, capital spending includes a $350 million smelter maintenance program starting this month, and further development of its underground operations.

These announcements coincide with BHP’s recent call for Expressions of Interest from local and SA suppliers seeking to participate in their Olympic Dam operations.
