Our young people aged between 15-24 years old, need employers to open their doors and provide leadership and shared knowledge.
The Australian Government is offering businesses an upfront payment of $1,000 to host an internship. Employers can trial a young person in an internship for between 4 and 12 weeks to determine how they fit in the team and if they are suitable for ongoing employment.
Interns are not paid by the business but receive a fortnightly incentive paid by the Australian Government. Additionally, the intern is covered by insurance paid through the Department of Employment. The upfront payment of $1,000 will not be recovered if the internship is not completed.
The Australian Government and Regional Development Australia Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula are acutely aware that finding a suitable employee can be a testing stretch of resources for business, particularly small business. Youth unemployment is more than double the general unemployment rate. This won’t be reduced if we can’t expose our young job seekers to real work experience.

- respect and professionalism.
