Thank a Farmer, National Agriculture Day
Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) and Primary Producers SA want you to join them in celebrating our farming sector.
National Ag Day is the inaugural national celebration of Australian agriculture, showcasing all aspects of our agricultural sector.
Australia’s top agriculture exports last year were beef, wheat and wool and the agriculture industry supports 1.6 million jobs across the supply chain, including areas such as retail, logistics, processing and more.
In South Australia, one in five people work in the state’s agriculture, food and wine industries.
So, it’s time to ‘Thank a Farmer SA’ and there’s a number of ways individuals, schools, businesses and communities statewide can show their appreciation.
Get informed: Check out PIRSA’s fact sheets, videos and education resources all about SA’s primary industries at www.pir.sa.gov.au/agday
Shout it out: Take a picture or video and tell us why our farmers are so great. Make sure to use #ThankafarmerSA and #AgDay. And remember to tag us on Twitter: @PIRSA_SA
Spread the word: Use our posters and social media resources at your workplace, school or community to share the many, many reasons why we should #ThankafarmerSA.
Choose SA: And Eat Local. Show your support for our state’s farmers by buying local
Drive safely: Remember it’s the season slow moving machinery are on our country roads, so be patient and give them a thumbs up as you go by.
Host an event: Organise a school activity, morning tea or a lunch during the week of 20–24 November or even plan a post-harvest lunch and give our farmers something to look forward to after this busy season. And remember to share it online via #ThankafarmerSA.
Go national: There’s more great ideas on how to celebrate #AgDay at the National Ag Day website – www.agday.org.au
You may have also recognised South Australia’s most famous farmers, George the Farmer and Dr Ruby and some of their friends in our banner.
George is a National Agriculture Day Ambassador, and their creators Simone Kain and Ben Hood very kindly provided the illustrations for the design of our inaugural artwork for #ThankafarmerSA.
We look forward to celebrating National Ag Day with you. Keep an eye out on social media for #ThankafarmerSA as we will be sharing more news, events and activities as the day nears.
