The RDAWEP Indigenous Economic Development Program provides support to help Aboriginal people move into the workforce and assist Aboriginal groups to undertake commercial activities. The focus for this area is:

  • Improve the economy of Aboriginal Organisations and or Individuals
  • Attract investment to support the establishment and sustainability of Indigenous economy

The goal is to create a vibrant and dynamic Indigenous community which balances cultural and social goals with sustainable economic development. The aim is to provide a strategy for the development of local economic growth and opportunities for Indigenous training and employment. The Economic Development Strategy identified opportunities for Indigenous involvement in five industry sectors:

  • Mining
  • The Indigenous and local economy
  • Land based activities in agriculture, horticulture and natural resources management
  • Water, sea and land based activities in commercial fishing and aquaculture
  • Tourism and the arts
