The annual Cummins Christmas Wonderland turns 10 this year!

The volunteer run Christmas event, which has become a festive season highlight for the residents of Cummins, is celebrating its 10th birthday this month.

The exhibition which is refreshed each year is created largely by re-purposing and recycling goods along with relying on the kindness of people to help with the displays.

Cummins Christmas Wonderland organiser Grace Coombs emphasised, “we always try to vary our displays but the main thing is that we want to make it fun”.

This year the Wonderland will include the special addition of a sleigh all the way from Russia, “we saw an 1860’s Russian sleigh advertised by an Adelaide auction house earlier this year and were delighted when it was passed in and we were able to purchase it with a donation we received,” Grace said.

As well as being loved by the local community the Wonderland is also attracting more visitors each year from farther afield, according to Grace, “it’s great fun really creating this every year and it’s certainly something that the community has embraced. It has a flow-on effect to the whole community really – it gives people from outside the region a reason to visit our town.”

The Wonderland team begin planning in February each year, and along with plenty of local support, strive to create a really fun and exciting event for everyone to enjoy.

Located in the Cummins RSL Hall, the Christmas Wonderland is open from December 1 to December 31 from 10am to 5pm except Christmas Day when it’s open from 2pm-5pm.

Father Christmas will also be making an appearance everyday between 10am to 12pm from December 14 up until Christmas Eve.
