RDAWEP is pleased to welcome Children’s University Australia to our Whyalla office.  The initiative will provide our young students with a taste of future university life and enhance their usual academic experience.

CUA encourages children to engage in fun, meaningful learning beyond the classroom and recognises their achievements through the award of formal certificates.  The aim of the program is to engage children in learning in its broadest sense and to provide the scaffolding for children to develop self-efficacy, confidence, aspiration and leadership skills.

The program is proudly led by the University of Adelaide and is based on an award-winning model developed in the United Kingdom.  It was launched with 45 students in a school in the northern suburbs of Adelaide in late 2013.  Since then it has grown, and now reaches over 8,000 students across metropolitan Adelaide and is expanding rapidly throughout Australia.  This year the program has received funding to expand into regional South Australia, focusing on the Spencer Gulf, Riverland and Murraylands areas.

Currently, 5 schools in the Spencer Gulf region have signed up for the program.
