BHP has recently announced a new initiative to help regional SME businesses engage and join the company’s supply chain while also providing great support to local communities.

The Local Buying Program has been successful in other regions of Australia and is now being rolled out to the upper Spencer Gulf and northern SA. It provides local SME businesses with a dedicated buying platform, good payment terms and support to engage through local Business Engagement Advisors.

The company is seeking businesses with less than 20 full-time employees and a significant physical presence primarily in Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie or Roxby Downs to join the program and register as a supplier.

Categories include: Trade Maintenance Services, Engineering Consulting, Equipment Maintenance Services, Mobile Equipment Hire, Industrial Plant Construction Services, Earthmoving Services, Accommodation and Catering.

Key dates for the roll-out in South Australia are:

  • 2 October – Supplier registration opens
  • 2-15 October – LBP supplier registrations workshops
  • 30 October – Local Buying Program goes live and work instructions accessible
